Romanization of Chinese: Peking and Beijing. | WAIS - This whole discussion (Peking/Beijing, but also Nanking/Nanjing, Chungking/Chongqing and thousands of others) illustrates the problem I was speaking of before, namely that of non-specialists being forced to use a Romanization that requires specialist knowledge to use accurately. This was always a major problem with WG, and I am still trying to clean up that mess as I write. But 50 years from now someone else will have to re-write everything I have said here for our children and kids yet unborn to try to make sense of Hanyu Pinyin' to them.
